Ecodesign is becoming a necessary approach for any business. Ecodesign is of strategic importance and allows business to innovate and become more competitive. However, many business leaders still think that they need to chose between good management or environmental stewardship. Nevertheless many Quebec businesses have integrated ecodesign approaches and their experience shows that it is beneficial. Alexandre Joyce will describe the principles and benefits of ecodesign. Jonathan Hardy will present how Lumec integrated ecodesign in their design process.
- Biography:

Jonathan Hardy is a project manager for new products with Philips Lumec. Philips Lumec designs decorative and functional exterior lighting systms. For more than 8 years Mr. Hardy has participated in multifunctional design teams. Recently the team has integrated a ecodesign approach. Mr. Hardy has also contirbuted to Lumec's Green Committee. Alexandre Joyce has been trained as a industrial designer with a master's in Applied Sciences in Design and Complexity. Mr. Joyce has performed a number of innovative research projects in ecodesign. He has also worked in Milan for the design studio Total Tool developing ecological usage scenarios for companies such as IKEA and 3M. Since 2008, Mr. Joyce is a sustainable development advisor for the Product Development Institute.
